Governor Information & Vacancies
What does it mean to be a governor?
Governors are volunteers who, as a team, meet and are responsible for things such as:
- Setting priorities and targets for school improvement and development.
- Monitoring the progress that the children in the school are making.
- Ensuring policies are adhered to.
- Making sure money is well spent by monitoring the school budget.
- Holding the headteacher or school leadership to account.
School governors offer strategic guidance rather than getting involved in the operational aspect of the school. You will learn about how decisions are made at our schools. Being a governor on one of our Local Governing Bodies provides a unique opportunity to see how the school is managed while playing an integral role in deciding what happens next within the school.
Our Local Governing Bodies are composed of the Headteacher, a governor who is a member of staff, two governors who are parents, and a number of people appointed by the Trust. Our Church schools also have governors who are appointed by the Diocese.
How much time is needed to be a governor?
- There are usually six meetings of the Local Governing Body per year, each lasting around two hours. Dates are set well in advance.
- Preparation time in advance of the meeting, such as reading and digesting the information in the papers.
- Commitment to training and development in your role, fully supported by governance colleague
Although becoming a governor requires drive and commitment, you’ll enjoy many professional and personal rewards, including career development opportunities and the chance to support young people’s futures
